My name is Jhyrah DeLapp, and to help you pronounce and remember my name I tell people it rhymes with Tyra. Another thing about my name is it originates from the Bible just with different spelling, Jehovah Jireh, and it means "The Lord our God our provider". I'm a second year student majoring in Professional Writing with a concentration in Journalism with a minor in Business. This is my first year at North Carolina State University because I transferred from Appalachian State University.

Career Aspirations

I major in Journalism because my dream is to one day be a sports analyst on ESPN like Stephen A. Smith or Mike Greenbreg, or to work in the front office of a National Basketball Association (NBA) team. Ever since I was young I always wanted to do something in the sports world. Sports, especially football and basketball, is just one of those things that I can talk about for hours without running out about things to say. I find almost aspect of sports interesting because it's essentially a game of chess with multiple boards;however, the pieces are people and not just some game pieces.

Somethings that I like:

Where am I From?

I was born in a small subtown of Salem, Virginia called Troutsville in a hospital called Lewisgale Medical Center. However, I grow up and lived in a city close by called Roanoke, Virgina until 2014 when I moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I lived and still currently reside in Winston-Salem since that time I moved from Roanoke in 2014. Even though I lived most of life in Roanoke I would most likely say I am from Winston-Salem if someone asked me but I claim both cities as home for me.

Sports Team I Support and Why I Support Them

People always why I support the teams I do because none of them have any geographic relevance to me which they find weird but all the teams in the Virginia area were horrible so I didn't want to support them. Firstly, the reason I like the Pittsburgh Steelers is because when I was little kid, around the age of 4, I looked up to my older cousin, Jarion, and he liked the Steelers. However, even though I became a Steelers fan because of my cousin over the years I developed a connection with the team becoming a genuine fan. This winter break me and my cousin went to see the Steelers play in Pittsburgh in Heinz Field, their stadium, for Big Ben's, quarterback for the Steelers since 2003-04, last home game before he retired against one of our biggest rivals, the Cleveland Browns. Then I am a Louisville Cardinals fan because one night, in the 2013-14 season, I was supposed to go to sleep because it was a school night but this college basketball game between Louisville and Norte Dame was going to double overtime, so I disobeyed my mom and stayed up and watched the game. In that game Louisville would end up losing in sextuple overtime but I just loved the way they kept fighting back and hitting shots to stay in the game. Coincidentally Louisville would end up winning the National tourament that year. My reasons for liking LSU and Toronto are very similar to my reason for liking Louisville which is because they showed some type of underdog mentality to them. Also, forunately for me I have witnessed all of my favorite sports team win a championship in my life time which is something not a lot of sports fans can say.

Why Did I Transfer to NC State?

I transferred to NC State from App State after my freshman year of college. One of my biggest reasons for transferring is because I perfer city life over the mountains. In Boone, there wasn't much to do other than hike which I didn't like. One time while at App me and my friends were thinking of what we wanted to do in the day and one of them said, "We should go hiking", and that's when I hit my breaking point because we had already been hiking three times that week alone. Another reason I transferred to NC State was because I have a groupchat with 20 friends from high school and 15 of them went here,so it was hard to past up the opportunity to hang out with them everyday and potentially live with them. I'm thankful for the memories and friends I made at my time at App but I don't regret my decision to trasfer at all because I love Raleigh.
